Crane Accident

A boom truck tipped over in Wychmere harbour, Harwich, Cape Cod, Massachussets, yesterday after the ground gave way beneath one of its front outriggers. The crane, which is owned by locally based Baxter Crane was lifting a section of a wood framed building , when the outrigger punched through the ground and virtually flipped, with its boom nose ending up in the water.

A 70 ton truck crane tipped over and sliced through a house in North Carolina yesterday evening while helping remove a large tree from its back yard. The accident occurred in the historic district of Gastonia, to the west of Charlotte, while working for Denton Tree Services.

A tower crane accident occurred in Cologne this weekend causing damage to a building and a car below, but thankfully no injuries were reported. We have few details on the accident, which occurred in the Rudolfplatz in central Cologne on Saturday.

At around 9:53 a.m. Saturday, an emergency call came into the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department regarding an accident at Quality Steel Corporation in Cleveland. “There was an industrial accident that resulted in a fatality,” said Investigator Dasel Moorhead.

A large industrial crane has tipped over in Saint John, smashing through a fence and sending the crane operator to hospital. The accident happened at about 9 a.m. Friday at a construction site near the waterfront.

A 240 ton All Terrain crane went over late last week at a Chevron Refinery in Pascagoula, Mississippi, due to a lack of communication and full walk around daily inspection. The initial reports state that the crane’s outriggers had been retracted on the left hand side of the crane by a second shift, in order to take them out of a roadway during the night.

A mobile crane tipped over on Wednesday at the Yeongam Formula One circuit in South Korea damaging part of a main grandstand. Korea is due to stage the grand prix on the 24th October but was not ready for the standard pre-race approval inspection normally due 90 days prior to the race. A last minute inspection is scheduled for October 11th.

A crane operator working for a roofing contractor is in hospital today with severe burns after the boom of his truck crane came into contact with power lines in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The accident, which happened on Monday night, also cut power to thousands of homes within a 30 block area.
