Salzburg, Austria-based Palfinger continues to make design enhancements to its articulating boom cranes, which are available in North America through Palfinger Inc., Niagara Falls, Ontario. The latest development—High Performance Stability Control (HPSC)—has most recently been added to the PK 78002 SH and PK 65002 SH models, which are the two largest models in the SH product line. The PK 78002 SH has a lifting moment of 74.7 tonne-meters. Equipped with up to eight hydraulic extensions, it achieves a hydraulic outreach of 20.4 meters.

Liebherr has introduced a new efficient, low emission mobile harbour crane, the LHM 550, following its successful test and evaluation trials at the port of Odense in Denmark, where it is still working on routine port handling duties. The Liebherr LHM 550 has been designed for all types of general cargo, containers and bulk commodities with its 74 metre lifting height and 150 tonne capacity.
Crane and engine manufacturers have been faced with a range of choices and challenges concerning current and future engine emission laws. At the start of 2011, substantially-reduced emission limits came into force for off-road diesel engine manufacturers.
Palfinger, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, has introduced two new 20-metric-ton class models, the PK 23502 and the PK 26002-EH. The PK 23502 knuckleboom crane, capable of tilting upwards 15° degrees (Power Link Plus), enables maximum movement geometry and broadens the type of work the crane can do.
Linden Comansa’s LCL Series of luffing jib cranes will be completed in September, with the launch of a fourth model, the LCL 165. In just more than a year, the Spanish manufacturer has completely renewed its range of luffers. The LCL 190 crane was presented at Bauma 2010, while the LCL 280 and LCL 310 were launched in March 2011.
Babcock and ZPMC commissioned the new 1,000 tonne gantry crane today at the Rosyth dockyard in Scotland. The 90 metre high 120 metre span crane lifted a mere 150 tonne load today in front of 1,200 people to kick off the formal load testing programme.
Challenger 3180 brings new naming system for mobile cranes
Terex says that its new Challenger 3180 all terrain is the only 3-axle, 60-tonne capacity class machine currently available that is designed for one-man operation. The new machine also represents a new approach for naming crane models, based on load moment rating rather than maximum safe working load.
Across the industry, the model names of mobile cranes have for years indicated their maximum rated capacity, such as the AC 60 – 60t capacity – which the new Challenger 3180 replaces in the Terex product line up.
Sany Manufactures World’s Largest Crawler Crane
The Sany Group recently announced manufacturing the world’s largest crawler crane. The jumbo crane rolled off the production line of China’s largest machine manufacturer on Tuesday in east Jiangsu Province, marking a major step forward for the Chinese manufacturing industry.
A couple of our readers have sent us information and photographs of the new 3,600 tonne Sany SCC86000TM crawler crane. The crane looks like a combination of the Terex CC8800 Twin and Manitowoc’s model 31000. It uses a twin boom and twin derrick mast but employs four sets of tracks in a similar way to the Manitowoc. We are still lacking a great deal of detail, but some of the photos we have seen show a four tracked carriage which looks as though it might be a super-lift counterweight carrier.
Lifting work on a new museum construction project in Denmark is being carried out by the first Potain Igo T130 self-erecting tower crane to be delivered. The building work forms part of a new exhibition center at the Moesgaard Museum, situated in the south of Aarhus.
