Engineering company Monadelphous Group Ltd. became the first company in Australia to acquire a 750 tonne capacity Manitowoc 18000 with Max-Er attachment. The company’s engineering construction division has put it to work at a mining operation in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The company also added a 400 tonne capacity Manitowoc 16000 crawler crane to its inventory of more than 100 cranes. The 18000 is fitted with a Max-Er superlift arrangement and main boom of 92 m. A luffing fly can add up to an extra 94 m. Dino Foti, Monadelphous engineering construction division executive general manager, said the decision to buy the cranes was a response to demand and industry trends, and to maintain a competitive edge. “We’ve always had our own cranes. That’s important because it gives us the flexibility to quickly allocate resources where and when required, and provide strong project support for customers,” says Foti. The Manitowoc 18000 will also complement SinoStruct, Monadelphous’s wholly-owned subsidiary in China, which specialises in heavy plate and large-scale structural fabrication.
