Link Belt will launch an all new 137 tonne/150ton lattice boomed crawler crane, the 238HSL at Conexpo in Las Vegas this March.
The new crane fits between the 218 HSL and 298 HSL and is targeted at general contractors for applications such as steel erection, bridge work and pile driving.
The 238’s features a main boom of 15.2 to 79.2 metres (50 to 260ft) a fixed jib option boasts a 27 tonne lift capacity, with lengths ranging from 9.1 to 24.4 metres (30–80ft) maximum tip height/ boom jib combination is 94.5 metres (310 feet) made up of 70.1 metres (230ft) of boom plus 24.4 metres (80ft) of jib. A luffing jib will also be available later.
The boom is made up of a new base and tip section, but all intermediate extensions are common with Hylab 5 sections. Link-Belt said that in order to make the 238 HSL an ideal general contractor machine, customer input drove much of the new design. The crane comes with folding upper guardrails and full-length right and left catwalks with grab handles. A rear-view, high-resolution camera and a colour information screen in the cab, while an outside travel alarm helps keep the ground crew informed.
The new crane uses an Isuzu 6HK1 engine with interim Tier IV Diesel Particulate Filter, driving a tandem main piston pump for super quiet, fuel efficient operation. Main winches come standard with automatic brakes as well as wet-style free-fall brakes on both drums.
The seven piece modular counterweight totals 50 tonnes and the built removal system is operated from the remote control station. The hydraulic counterweight removal cylinders stay with the counterweight, rather than remaining on the superstructure. The 15.9 tonne side frames attach via hook and pin for fast set up and tear down.
When stripped the main structure with self-erection equipment weighs less than 40 tonnes.
The 238 HSL’s cab offers greater visibility, more room; adjustable seat mounted controls, an AM/FM digital clock radio and a high-output air conditioning system, all of which are standard.
