The Sany Group recently announced manufacturing the world’s largest crawler crane. The jumbo crane rolled off the production line of China’s largest machine manufacturer on Tuesday in east Jiangsu Province, marking a major step forward for the Chinese manufacturing industry.
The Sany crawler crane SCC86000TM boasts a maximum lifting capacity of 3,600 tons, higher than the maximum torque and capacity of any 3,200T crawler crane of the world, and is believed to outpace any rival in the world in terms of lifting and torsion force, according to the company.
Its development adopted the most sophisticated design methods such as limit state design, digital prototyping and top-down design, overcoming the design challenges of non-linear structures and large deformation. This crawler crane pioneered in using the GB3811-2008 high-risk coefficient recommended for lifting machines used for nuclear industry and achieved a substantial break-through in structural design and control system. As of now, the product has applied for 30 patents, and some technologies have also applied for patents in countries like Germany and USA.
Years of efforts leads to today’s success
SANY Heavy Industry formed the world largest Sino-US R&D team composed of nearly 500 people and buit the most advanced crawler crane production line of the world. To develop SCC86000TM crawler crane, SANY Heavy Industry invested more than RMB 100 million to set up the first supercomputing center in the industry, independently developed lifting simulation software, and imported the world most advanced processing equipments and testing devices. During the development stage, SANY Heavy Industry widely sought suggestions from foreign and domestic industrial experts and passed technological review by industrial experts. Development of the product also won support and guidance from authoritative organizations like State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation and China Nuclear Engineering Group.
SANY’s strong R&D and manufacturing competence allowed SANY to create one record after another in the domestic crawler crane industry since 2006 when SANY rolled off China’s first 400T crawler crane, which was recognized as No. 1 crawler crane of China then and participated in Chilean mining accident in 2010, adding new meaning to “Made in China”. In June of 2006, SANY SCC6500 was produced. In 2008, the first Asian 1000T crawler crane rolled off the production line and was honored as No. 1 crawler crane of Asia. In 2010, SCC16000 1600T crawler crane was launched and applied in the nuclear power generation industry. On May 27 this year, SANY 1000T crawler crane successfully completed dome installation for Taishan Nuclear Power Plant. As the first Chinese crawler crane used for lifting key parts of nuclear power generation and islands, SANY SCC10000 and SCC16000, two models with capacity of over one thousand tons, have been used in dome installation for nuclear power plants eight times, ending the monopoly by foreign brands in lifting key parts of nuclear power generation and islands. SCC86000TM will be mainly applied in nuclear engineering sector. SANY Heavy Industry is expected to write a new chapter of Chinese crawler crane in the history of nuclear engineering in the near future.

The participating experts say that SCC86000TM is another historic contribution made by SANY to the Chinese crawler crane industry, and that its successful launch sigals end of monopoly of foreign brands in the big-capacity crawler crane field and shows China’s world-class R&D and manufacturing competence. Advent of SCC86000TM will definitely make more contribution to upgrade of Chinese crawler cranes.
