The US Port of Longview, in Washington state, welcomed the 50,000-deadweight-ton Star Laguna crane vessel in mid October when it visited the port on its maiden voyage.
The new vessel is part of a new L-class design launched by Grieg Star Shipping. The ship visited the Port of Longview with a cargo of 2,000 tons (1,800 tonnes) of wind energy cargo from Korea, bound for the Meadow Creek wind project in Idaho.
Grieg’s L-class design is an extension of its current open hatch gantry crane vessels with a reconfigured hold and a pair of 75 tonne capacity slewing cranes that can lift 150 tonnes in tandem.
The Star Laguna vessel features nine open hatch cargo holds, opposed to the standard five, and was built for faster and safer project cargo handling.
