On opening day of Bauma much attention is being paid to the new Terex Explorer 5800 all-terrain crane, which can be configured to meet any axle load configuration — from under 9,1 t (9.9 US tons) to 16,5 t (18.2 US tons) per axle — for operation in every market in the world.
With 2,44 m (8 foot) axle spacing, the five-axle, 220 t (245 US ton) capacity class all terrain crane offers a boom with a short 1,2 m (3.9 ft) front overhang, while its optional boom-off solution or dolly help in meeting the most stringent road regulations.
Looking at the prototype of the new crane was Allan Woodruff, executive vice president, Scott-Macon Equipment, Houston, TX.
“This type of crane is great for our market,” says Woodruff. “We are looking forward to seeing this unit come to the U.S.”
Its unique automatic counterweight rigging system enables the crane to be ready to work quickly, the company said.
The Explorer 5800 features a compact carrier, according to the company. Its 13,2 m (43.3 ft) carrier length enables it to quickly maneuver in metropolitan areas and navigate congested construction sites. All-axle steering delivers tight cornering and the ability to safely drive away from the wall for unmatched on-site maneuverability, Terex said.
While compact in size, the Terex Explorer 5800 does not sacrifice productivity. Featuring a 70 m (229.7 ft) main boom and maximum 103 m (337.9 ft) system length with a maximum load moment of 660 mt, the Explorer 5800 has a lifting capacity of 15 t (16.5 US tons) while telescoping. A 102 kN (22,930 lb) hoist with 21 mm (0.83 in) rope and 9.9 t (10 US ton) cable pull requires less reeving for shorter rigging times and increased performance.
A single, powerful Euromot IV/Tier 4 final compliant diesel engine operates both the driveline and upper structure, and a unique controller automatically senses demand on the engine to offer power when required and fuel economy when operating the crane’s upper structure.
The upper structure offers easy and safe 360° entry, and the crane’s outrigger stance of 8.4 m (27.6 ft) is the widest in its class. A pendulum load camera, tail swing camera, and hoist and right-hand side cameras improve operating visibility at the jobsite.
The Explorer 5800 features the latest Terex operator’s cab, designed to boost productivity. In the 2.85 m wide carrier cab, B-pillars have been removed for improved visibility. The Explorer 5800 comes standard with the IC-1 control system, which offers efficient and intuitive touchscreen operation.
