A demonstration was held for media today (June 26) of the new Tower Crane Operator Training Program being delivered at the Operating Engineers College campus in Holyrood.
With provincial funding provided through the federal-provincial Labour Market Development Agreement, the program will help meet the demand for tower crane operators needed to construct the Hebron Gravity-Based Structure.
The Tower Crane Operator Training Program will assist individuals in acquiring the qualifications needed to work on the Hebron construction site or any other project within Newfoundland and Labrador.
Students of the program have the opportunity to develop and apply the skills needed to operate a tower crane through the use of a state-of-the art computerized simulator featuring real crane controls, cab-like enclosure, surround visual-system, life-like worksites and instructor’s station.
Students will also gain real field experience in using a 16-tonne tower crane, similar to the cranes to be used for the Hebron construction site, provided by the Hebron project.
