A crane rental company in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada has been issued with a $10,000 traffic fine after police officers spotted one of its 50 tonne Rough Terrain cranes travelling on public roads, in South Edmonton on Wednesday.
Under local laws the maximum weight allowed for a self-propelled two axle crane of this type is 22,000kg, while the actual crane – a Tadano TR500 – weighed in at 46,750kgs. The crane is also not certified for road travel in Edmonton and can only be moved on a trailer.
The name of the crane company has not been released as police say it is cooperating fully.
