The Ontario Ministry of Labour announced Monday its inspectors will conduct a safety blitz this month of construction sites with tower cranes, checking access and fall arrest equipment, plus inspection records and certification of operators.

Sany Manufactures World’s Largest Crawler Crane
The Sany Group recently announced manufacturing the world’s largest crawler crane. The jumbo crane rolled off the production line of China’s largest machine manufacturer on Tuesday in east Jiangsu Province, marking a major step forward for the Chinese manufacturing industry.
The UK’s crane rental association – the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) – has issued a Technical Information Note, a letter and a declaration form to help UK crane rental companies overcome customer demands for a four year overload test that is no longer required or recommended.
Italian crane manufacturer Locatelli has supplied 20 Rough Terrain cranes – 12, 30 tonne GRIL 8300T and eight, 60 tonne GRIL 8300T over the past 12 months to the consortium working on the widening of the Panama Canal.
New LCL 310 and LCL 280 tower cranes from Linden Comansa
Linden Comansa has introduced two new models of luffing-jib cranes. The company says the new models will be available by the end of April. These new cranes, LCL 310 and LCL 280, altogether with the LCL 190 presented last year in Bauma, form the new family of luffing-jib cranes from Linden Comansa, which will be completed this summer with the launch of a fourth model, the LCL 165.

Tower-Crawling Crane Cuts Cost of Wind Power
Just a few days ago the Department of Energy announced a ten-year plan to make wind and solar power as cheap as fossil fuels, and at least one top player in the future energy field is off to a roaring start. That would be GE. The company has just completed acquisition of a next-generation technology that lowers the cost of installing wind turbine towers, resulting in an overall savings of up to 12%.
The second International Crane Summit opened yesterday (22November) in Shanghai, China, with around 250 delegates from over 90 companies and 25 countries. The audience heard from a wide range of speakers from China, the US and Europe.
