A new company has been established in the UK to provide contractors and other crane owners with operators. Based just outside of London High Drive Recruitment is fronted by Tristam Mayes a highly experienced crane operator in his own right.

Mike Gelskey Sr., president and CEO, Lift-It Manufacturing, Los Angeles, Calif., will be one of the headline speakers at Maximum Capacity Media’s (MCM) Crane & Rigging Conference (CRC) Canada, which will take place Oct. 12-13, 2011 at the Fantasyland Hotel, Alberta.

W.O. Grubb has become a go-to crane and transport company when it comes to show business. The company’s cranes were featured in the movie “Evan Almighty,” and their crews erected an elaborate stage for a U2 concert in Virginia. Recently W.O. Grubb Crane Rental played a huge role in rigging and lifting race cars for a television commercial.

Liebherr has introduced a new efficient, low emission mobile harbour crane, the LHM 550, following its successful test and evaluation trials at the port of Odense in Denmark, where it is still working on routine port handling duties. The Liebherr LHM 550 has been designed for all types of general cargo, containers and bulk commodities with its 74 metre lifting height and 150 tonne capacity.

Terex Cranes announced Thursday it will close its Wilmington facility for fabrication and assembly by the end of the year, eliminating about 90 jobs in the process, according to a press release. The facility in Wilmington does some assembly and fabrication of tower cranes and small crawler cranes.
