The crane, a Demag owned by rental company Kran & Shakt had set up with full boom and extensions on a project close to the city’s Central Station to lift glass panels into place on a new building being constructed by Peab.
mobile cranes
The fatal crane accident near Hobart, Tasmania earlier today was a road accident involving an articulated pick and carry crane.
The driver of the truck crane involved that ran through a set of traffic lights in Tampa on September 16th, crashing into a bus and a sheriff’s car, seriously injuring a deputy, has been cited for ‘running the light’ and having faulty service brakes.
How the Mobile Crane Is Rebuilding the Modern World
When the crane was first invented (that would be around the time of the Ancient Greeks), it wasn’t very easy to move around. The whole practical application of the early crane was basically rooted in the idea that a solid stationary point could provide a fulcrum for applying an upward lifting force: which is why we see the anchor holes for static cranes in the front of the remains of Ancient Grecian temples and villas.
India’s expanding crane market, attractive, challenging prospect
Manufacturers from outside India are making forays into a market traditionally dominated by a particular type of pick and carry crane. Times are changing and opportunity is rife.
Although it will be some time before the pick and carry crane is eclipsed as the most common type in India, the market is moving slowly towards models found in foreign markets.
A mobile crane removing a concrete bridge girder goes over due to soils sluffing off down a hill. The soils are non-native and even though they used matting, you should have some sort of reinforcement to prevent the soils from moving when on a hill like this. (Click on picture to view video.)
BKL used a pair of Liebherrs to help replace the skin of a 48 m diameter domed antenna in Germany.
The German Federal Post Office took the first parabolic antenna into operation at the earth station at Raisting, Bavaria in 1964. The then groundbreaking technology needed to be protected against wind and weather by a spherical air-supported cover, referred to as a radom – derived from the English words radar dome.
Almost 50 years later the cover had become porous, meaning there was the threat of it collapsing.

A large mobile crane went over somewhere in Texas last week, from what, looking at the photographs, appears to be obvious reasons. From what we understand no one was injured in the incident. The photos were sent to us by a reader who has said little about the accident apart from observing that the rear outriggers do not appear to have been extended and there is no counterweight in place. The accident apparently occurred on November 18th although we have no firm confirmation of this date.
