Italian crane maker Locatelli has delivered 20 Rough Terrain cranes for work on the widening of the Panama Canal. The cranes, 12 units of the company’s 30 tonne GRIL 8300T plus eight 60 tonne GRIL 8600T, have been sold to the “Grupo Unido por el Canal” consortium – an international joint venture between Impregilo of Italy, Sacyr Vallehermoso of Spain, Somague of Portugal, Jan de Nul of Belgium and Panama’s Constructora Urbana.

German based crane rental company Knaack-Krane has taken delivery of two new 600 tonne Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler cranes. The first unit arrived in March, while the second has now also been delivered. Both cranes have gone to work erecting wind turbines.
A tree or an outrigger accident
A 70 ton truck crane tipped over and sliced through a house in North Carolina yesterday evening while helping remove a large tree from its back yard. The accident occurred in the historic district of Gastonia, to the west of Charlotte, while working for Denton Tree Services.
Bigge executed the extraordinarily rare and technically challenging task of erecting a luffing tower crane on a traveling chassis base for work on a large retail center in downtown Salt Lake City. Bigge not only provided the crane, a Comedil CTL 340, with a mast of 137 feet and a 131 foot jib, but also erected it and installed the rail system that will transport the crane as it works over the next year to help build the center.

Terex has unveiled a three axle 50 to 60 tonne All Terrain crane on three axles at its open day in Zweibrücken. dubbed the Challenger 3160, it is a light weight 50 to 60 tonne crane with 50 metres of main boom. It will lift over 35 tonnes to four metres radius and yet can meet 10 tonne axle loads if its counterweight is removed.
Sky Train Transit network takes shape at Phoenix airport
The structure of the new Sky Train transit network is taking shape at the Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix. When complete, the elevated rail system will transfer passengers between the airport’s busiest terminal, Terminal 4, and the Metro Light Rail station and East parking lots.
Engineering company Monadelphous Group Ltd. became the first company in Australia to acquire a 750 tonne capacity Manitowoc 18000 with Max-Er attachment. The company’s engineering construction division has put it to work at a mining operation in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
