Crane Institute of America announces the availability of the newest edition of the industry’s favorite crane handbook. Mobile Cranes, 10th edition, by James Headley, is an excellent study guide for mobile crane operators who are preparing to take accredited certification exams.
Filled with useful illustrations, clear explanations, and real-world examples, the handbook covers essential topics on crane setup, operation, and hazards. First published in 1999, the 10th edition includes important updates reflecting the latest industry standards and best practices.
For the first time, Service/Mechanics trucks are referenced. This equipment can be found anywhere heavy equipment or machinery is used, such as mines, gas and oil fields, utility sub-stations or your local crane rental company. The addition of Service/Mechanic Truck Cranes is important with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1400 requiring the qualification, or certification, of operators if the equipment is used in activities other than maintenance and repair.

About the Author
James Headley has spent more than 40years working in the crane and rigging industry. After serving a crane apprenticeship through Operating Engineers Local 312 in Birmingham, Ala., he worked as journeyman crane operator until entering the crane training business in 1984.
As Presidentof Crane Institute of America, Headley has developed training programs for hundredsof major companies including ALCOA, Boeing, ExxonMobil, Hanson Aggregates, Honeywell, Kennecott, Southern Company, Toyota, USX, Weyerhauser, the U.S. Military, and others. For over 20 years, he served on the ASME B30 main committee on cranes and lifting devices, and subcommittees B30.5, B30.9, and B0.26. Presently he serves on the International Standards Organization (ISO) committee on cranes.
