MCM Group Inc., publisher of Crane & Rigging Hot Line magazine, and the Association of Crane & Rigging Professionals (ACRP) announce that they have opened the nomination process for 2014 Top Trainers. Nominations will be accepted until July 31, 2014.
“The number and quality of the nominations grows each year that this prestigious award has been given,” said Katie Parrish, editorial director of Maximum Capacity Media, publisher of Crane & Rigging Hot Line. “With the increasing popularity of the program, we have pushed the deadline up a month earlier than in the past,” she said.
Last year saw a 35% increase in the number of nominations over 2012. Most years, the magazine receives an equal number of nominations for both Professional and Corporate categories. Professional trainers are those employed by training companies or divisions of companies primarily engaged in training. Corporate trainers come from companies whose employer is primarily engaged in some other activity, such as manufacturing, distribution, rigging supply, insurance, specialty and general contracting, crane inspection, crane rental, and other services.
The goal of the awards program is to bring attention to the importance of quality training in reducing crane and rigging accidents. It aligns closely with ACRP’s mission of improving crane operations and rigging activities through education. “We appreciate the ACRP’s endorsement of the program and their professional expertise in judging the nominations,” said Parrish.
Trainers are recognized for having a positive impact on students, the work environment or the industry through the use of innovative training techniques or hands-on instruction, by encouraging peer or corporate accountability, and/or through quantitative or anecdotal evidence that the training was successful.
There is no fee associated with making a nomination and the first 30 people to submit a complete nomination will receive a 2014 Hot Line Crane Guide, which features data on crane models from more than 100 manufacturers. Winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony at the 2015 ACRP General Assembly meeting. Other prizes include training or educational scholarships.
The 2013 winners, Hank Dutton of Travelers Insurance Co., and Angelo Alverio of Crane Inspection and Certification Bureau, will be honored at the May 13-16, 2014 ACRP General Assembly meeting in Nashville, Tenn.
